Birch/ Koivu

Initially a response to the loss of my mother and to seek connection with a distant landscape, this series of 12 photographs evolved as a reflection on the caring work I do as a mother. These photographs are accompanied by 12 pen drawings of birch bark made from direct observation: a meditation on texture and pattern and the connections I see between the undulations and crevices in the bark and the body.
